Founded in 1999 by Joe and Sarah Hamilton, Pilgrim’s Market has flourished under their leadership. While Joe has remained at the helm, steering the store’s growth and innovation, Sarah—a registered nurse—has followed her own entrepreneurial path, establishing Sarah Hamilton Face, a respected name in medical aesthetics.

Unlike big-box competitors, Pilgrim’s remains fiercely independent, refusing to expand beyond its single, thriving location. “People ask all the time when we’re opening another store,” says Joe, “but my passion is right here—continuing to innovate and grow in Coeur d’Alene.”

More Than Just a Grocery Store

Step inside Pilgrim’s 25,000-square-foot store, and you’ll find a curated selection of the best in organic produce, gourmet cheese, beer and wine, bulk foods, meats, a full-service deli, scratch bakery, and premium supplements. But what truly sets Pilgrim’s apart is its certified organic farm, located directly behind the store. Few grocers can say they grow their own produce—Pilgrim’s can.

And growth is a constant theme. In 2024 alone, Pilgrim’s Market launched its rotisserie chicken program, offering hot, fresh, and clean-ingredient chicken for busy families. The deli also expanded its offerings to include breakfast (served daily from 7–10 a.m.), and its newly launched in-house beverage program is already making waves, boasting cold-pressed juices with plans to introduce nootropic beverages and beer soon.
