Trump Declares April 2 “Liberation Day” for Launch of Aggressive Tariff Plan

President Donald Trump has announced plans for an aggressive new tariff policy if he returns to the White House, dubbing the proposed implementation date "Liberation Day."
Trump's proposal centers on a blanket 10% tariff on all imported goods, along with steeper, targeted levies on specific countries. He frames this strategy as a way to promote American manufacturing and reduce the nation's trade deficit. However, economists and trade experts warn such sweeping measures could trigger retaliatory tariffs, raise consumer prices, and strain international trade relationships. Learn More…
Growing City, Growing Needs: CDA Proposes $16.4M Bond for Fire Department

Coeur d'Alene’s rapid population growth has brought a sharp rise in emergency response demands, with emergency calls surging by 35% since 2015. As call volumes continue to rise, the city’s fire department is experiencing increasing strain on its stations, equipment, and personnel. To meet this growing need, city officials are urging residents to support an upcoming bond measure that would fund critical upgrades for the Fire Department.
To help residents learn more, the Fire Department is hosting an Open House on April 9 at 6 p.m. at Station No. 2 on Ramsey Road. Attendees will have a chance to speak directly with department staff, tour the facility, and understand how the proposed upgrades will benefit the community.
Medicaid Access Tightens: Idaho Lawmakers Pass Bill Targeting Undocumented Residents

A bill that would end non-emergency Medicaid coverage for individuals residing in the country illegally has cleared both chambers of the Idaho Legislature and is now headed to Governor Brad Little’s desk for final approval.

Emergency services would remain protected under federal law, but other forms of coverage—including preventive care, follow-up appointments, and some forms of ongoing treatment—would no longer be available under state Medicaid programs.
