U.S. Revokes Visas of Two U of I Students
Over Drone Research

Two international students at the University of Idaho have had their U.S. visas revoked by federal immigration authorities due to alleged misuse of drone technology. The move has raised concerns among university officials about broader impacts on academic research and international student programs.
The students, both pursuing advanced degrees in engineering, were reportedly involved in a research project that included the use of drones. Although the project was approved and supervised by faculty, federal agencies flagged the activity as potentially violating export control laws. These laws regulate the transfer of certain technologies to foreign nationals, even within the United States, especially when the technology could have national security implications. Read More…
Idaho Legislature Closes 2025 Session with Emphasis on Tax Cuts

The Idaho Legislature wrapped up its 2025 session on Friday, marking an end to a legislative period heavily focused on tax policy. Over the past three months, lawmakers prioritized a series of tax cuts while sidestepping some of the more contentious or sweeping proposals that were floated early in the session.
Among the key measures passed were reductions to property taxes and income taxes, including a move to increase the homeowner's exemption and trim the state’s top income tax rate. Lawmakers also voted to distribute surplus funds to Idaho residents through tax rebates, continuing a trend of returning state budget surpluses to taxpayers. Read More…

Springtime Bear Safety: Idaho Officials Share Tips to Prevent Wildlife Conflicts

As spring arrives in Idaho, bears are emerging from hibernation and beginning their search for food. With this seasonal shift, Idaho Fish and Game is reminding residents and outdoor enthusiasts to be proactive in avoiding bear encounters.
During the early months of spring, bears—especially hungry females with cubs—roam closer to populated areas in search of easy meals. The department emphasizes that human-provided food sources like bird feeders, pet food, garbage, and even barbecue grills can unintentionally attract bears into neighborhoods, increasing the chances of conflict.
