Coeur d’Alene Protesters Join Nationwide ‘Hands Off’ Movement to Defend Democracy

A strong show of solidarity unfolded in Coeur d’Alene on Saturday as several hundred protesters gathered along U.S. 95 near Appleway Avenue, joining the national "Hands Off!" movement to raise concerns over federal budget cuts and threats to civil rights.
Local participants brought energy, signs, and patriotic spirit to the demonstration, united in their opposition to recent cuts to veterans programs and uncertainty around the future of Social Security. For many, the protest was a broader call to protect democratic institutions, constitutional rights, and the social safety net. Read More…
Head Start Regional Office Serving Idaho and Washington to Close

The Region 10 Training and Technical Assistance office, which provides crucial oversight and support for Head Start services, is set to close this summer. Operated by the National Head Start Association (NHSA) under a contract with the Administration for Children and Families, the office plays a vital role in offering guidance, resources, and compliance support to local Head Start providers.
The decision to shutter the Spokane-based office appears linked to the involvement of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a third-party presidential candidate who has drawn scrutiny for his controversial views on vaccines and public health. Kennedy’s nonprofit, Children’s Health Defense, has been named as part of a newly awarded contract that will oversee technical assistance in multiple regions, including the area currently served by the Spokane office. Pastor Tim Remington Shares Story of Survival and Faith at Book Signing

Nearly a decade after surviving a near-fatal shooting, Pastor Tim Remington greeted a line of admirers at the Sower Bible Bookstore on Saturday, where he signed copies of Gun Shot Witness: The Tim Remington Story. The book, authored by Amy Joy Hess, recounts the harrowing events of March 6, 2016, when Remington was shot six times outside The Altar Church in Coeur d’Alene — and lived to tell the story.
Among those in attendance was Ted Currie, who had never met Remington but felt forever connected to that moment. On the day of the shooting, Currie was on the phone with his brother in Coeur d’Alene when he heard gunfire in the background. That moment left a lasting impact, and meeting Remington in person felt deeply significant. "He’s my hero," Currie said after getting a signed copy of the book. Read More…

Springtime Bear Safety: Idaho Officials Share Tips to Prevent Wildlife Conflicts

As spring arrives in Idaho, bears are emerging from hibernation and beginning their search for food. With this seasonal shift, Idaho Fish and Game is reminding residents and outdoor enthusiasts to be proactive in avoiding bear encounters.
During the early months of spring, bears—especially hungry females with cubs—roam closer to populated areas in search of easy meals. The department emphasizes that human-provided food sources like bird feeders, pet food, garbage, and even barbecue grills can unintentionally attract bears into neighborhoods, increasing the chances of conflict.
