Pope Francis dies at 88

The Vatican began its first public act of mourning for Pope Francis on Monday evening with a solemn Rosary prayer in St. Peter’s Square, hours after the pontiff passed away at the age of 88. As the sun dipped behind the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica, Cardinal Mauro Gambetti led the prayer in front of a Marian icon, surrounded by a choir and the quiet reverence of gathered faithful. The Idaho State Department of Agriculture is hosting free pesticide disposal events from April 22–26 in five cities across the state. The program helps farmers and residents safely discard unwanted pesticides to prevent environmental and health risks. Coeur d’Alene Man Donates $500
to Support KCSO Canine Program

A local Coeur d’Alene resident is stepping up to support law enforcement in a heartfelt way. John Tish-Deus, a community member known for his generosity, recently donated $500 to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) to benefit its canine program.
The donation was made in honor of Tish-Deus’s birthday, marking a personal milestone with a meaningful contribution to a cause close to his heart. Maintenance Work to Shut Down Hauser Lake Park April 29–May 2

Visitors to Hauser Lake should plan ahead next week, as Hauser Lake Park and its boat launch area will temporarily close for maintenance and upgrades.
The Kootenai County Parks & Waterways Department announced that the closure will begin Monday, April 29, and is expected to last until Thursday, May 2. Ninth Annual Arbor Day Event

North Idaho College will celebrate Arbor Day in style this year, welcoming the public to its ninth annual tree-themed event on Saturday, April 26, beginning at noon in the Molstead Library parking lot on the Coeur d’Alene campus. It is a free event for the public.
