Early Voting Begins in Idaho
Ahead of Key May 20 Primary

Solar Advocates Oppose Idaho Power’s Plan to Cut Compensation for Excess Energy

Solar energy supporters are raising alarms over a new Idaho Power proposal that would significantly alter how customers are compensated for excess energy sent back to the grid. The utility is seeking approval from the Idaho Public Utilities Commission (PUC) to adjust its net metering structure—sparking concern from clean energy advocates and solar customers alike.
Under the current system, Idaho Power customers with solar panels receive credit for the surplus electricity they generate and feed into the grid, effectively lowering their monthly bills.
