With a vast collection of over 8,000 artifacts, 39,000 photographs, and thousands of archival documents, MONI tells the stories of North Idaho’s diverse past—from early explorers and the Schitsu’umsh people to the lumber and mining industries. In April 2025, the Museum will open its new home in the beautifully restored JC White House, offering visitors an expanded and modern space to explore the region’s heritage.

In addition to its exhibits, MONI actively engages the community through historical walking tours, lectures, and interactive events. Looking ahead, the Museum plans to expand with a 5,000 square foot underground addition to house state-of-the-art exhibits and archival storage. Trump Revives Push to Defund NPR, PBS as Congress Braces for Showdown

President Donald Trump has reignited efforts to defund the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), targeting public media entities like NPR and PBS in his proposed budget, a new executive order, and a possible funding rescission request.
