The Museum of North Idaho (MONI) has been preserving and sharing the rich history of the Coeur d’Alene region for 57 years. With a vast collection of over 8,000 artifacts, 39,000 photographs, and thousands of archival documents, MONI tells the stories of North Idaho’s diverse past—from early explorers and the Schitsu’umsh people to the lumber and mining industries. In April 2025, the Museum will open its new home in the beautifully restored JC White House, offering visitors an expanded and modern space to explore the region’s heritage.

In addition to its exhibits, MONI actively engages the community through historical walking tours, lectures, and interactive events. Looking ahead, the Museum plans to expand with a 5,000 square foot underground addition to house state-of-the-art exhibits and archival storage. As a hub for education and community connection, MONI continues to honor its mission: "Preserving and Illuminating Our Past to Inspire Our Future.

Trump Unveils Plan to Cut Drug Prices Through Executive Order

President Donald Trump has announced plans to sign an executive order aimed at reducing prescription drug prices for Americans. Speaking from the White House, Trump outlined the order's focus on aligning U.S. patient costs with the lower prices often seen in other countries, particularly for medications covered by Medicare.

The proposed measure targets high-cost drugs, including popular weight-loss treatments, and may also expand the ability to import more affordable prescription medications from abroad. The goal is to relieve financial pressure on patients by using international pricing benchmarks to guide domestic drug pricing strategies.

Cooling Idaho’s Waters: Priest River Team Tackles Rising Temperatures

Efforts to restore the cool, clean waters of Idaho's Priest River have taken a significant step forward, thanks to collaborative work by the Priest River Watershed Advisory Group. This coalition of stakeholders—including state agencies, federal organizations, nonprofits, and community members—has been focused on improving the river’s health and aquatic habitat.

The Priest River has long suffered from unnaturally warm water temperatures, which strain its native fish populations, particularly cold-water species like bull trout. These rising temperatures are driven by factors such as climate change, reduced river shading from degraded riparian zones, and the flow patterns regulated by the outlet dam on Priest Lake. The monitoring effort will run from July 1 to August 15, during which time community scientists are asked to visit their assigned sites between one and three times.
