Warm, Dry Spring May Force Idaho to Rely on Water Reservoirs

Following an unusually dry and warm spring, Idaho water officials warn that the state may need to depend more heavily on its reservoir systems to meet irrigation and agricultural needs throughout the summer.

According to data from the Idaho Department of Water Resources, precipitation across much of the state during April and May fell significantly below average. Combined with above-normal temperatures, the lack of moisture has led to early snowmelt and declining streamflows in several regions, particularly in southern and eastern Idaho. Learn More…
