Coeur d’Alene Family Pushes for Newborn Screening After Son’s Battle With Rare Disease

The Wavrick family of Coeur d’Alene is channeling their grief into a powerful mission following the death of their 3-year-old son, Connor. Diagnosed with Krabbe disease, a rare, degenerative genetic disorder, in mid-2024, Connor endured a bone marrow transplant and months of hospitalization. Forest Service Adjusts Staffing
Closes SNRA Headquarters to Public

The U.S. Forest Service has temporarily closed its offices at the Sawtooth National Recreation Area (SNRA) headquarters north of Ketchum due to recent staffing transitions. The closure, which took effect earlier this week, is expected to last through the end of June.

While the visitor center and headquarters remain closed to the public, the Forest Service has assured that operations will continue behind the scenes. Administrative work and land management efforts are still underway, and agency personnel are available via phone and email for assistance. Read More…
