Idaho Faces Potential SNAP Budget Strain Despite Efficient Program Management

Currently, Idaho’s SNAP program is largely federally funded, with the state contributing a small portion toward operational costs. State officials, including those at the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, highlight that Idaho runs the program with notably low administrative costs and minimal fraud.
However, congressional lawmakers are considering shifting more of the financial responsibility for SNAP onto the states as part of the 2024 Farm Bill negotiations. If passed, these proposed changes could cost Idaho an estimated $10 million annually, a figure that concerns state leaders. Read More…
