Idaho Plans Shift to Private Management for Medicaid by 2029

Idaho’s Medicaid program is set for a major overhaul as state health officials plan to transition the program to private management starting in 2029. The move would shift oversight of Medicaid, the public health insurance program for low-income residents, from the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare to private health insurance companies, similar to systems already in place in 41 other states.
The change aims to streamline care and improve health outcomes for more than 400,000 Idahoans enrolled in Medicaid. Under this model, private insurance companies would take on the role of coordinating services, such as doctor visits, prescription medications, and mental health care, while being reimbursed with public funds. Rite Aid to Close Stores in Coeur d'Alene and Hayden Amid National Restructuring

Rite Aid will permanently close its locations in Coeur d’Alene and Hayden, Idaho, as part of a nationwide effort to streamline operations under bankruptcy restructuring. The pharmacy chain, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in October 2023, continues to shutter underperforming locations across the U.S. in an effort to cut costs and reduce debt.
The Coeur d’Alene store, located on Ironwood Drive, will close on June 11. The Hayden location on North Government Way is also set to close, though an exact date has not been confirmed. Storefront signage has already been updated to announce the closures, and liquidation sales are underway. Read More…

Veteran Confronts Discrimination, Raises Awareness for Invisible Disabilities

A disabled veteran in Coeur d’Alene is speaking out after finding a hostile note left on his vehicle, accusing him of misusing a handicapped parking space. The incident has sparked a broader conversation about the challenges faced by individuals with non-visible disabilities and the need for greater public understanding.
The veteran, who served multiple tours overseas and suffers from combat-related injuries, legally uses a disabled parking permit. However, after returning to his vehicle, he discovered a note accusing him of not “looking disabled” and questioning his right to use the space. Read More…
