Grief and Anger Mount as Texas Recovers from Deadly Flash Floods

Across Texas, sorrow has replaced shock as families mourn the loss of more than 120 lives following devastating flash floods that swept through Hill Country and surrounding areas. The disaster, which began nearly a week ago, left a trail of destruction from Kerrville to the outskirts of Austin, and has prompted urgent calls for better flood preparedness and relief.
In Kerr County, the epicenter of the tragedy, nearly 100 bodies have been recovered. The death toll includes children at summer camps, elderly residents, and groups of friends who had gathered to celebrate the July Fourth holiday. Coeur d’Alene Hunter Sentenced for
Poaching Rare Bull Elk

A Coeur d’Alene man has been convicted of a felony for unlawfully killing a trophy bull elk during an archery-only season in North Idaho, following a tip submitted to Idaho Fish and Game’s Citizens Against Poaching hotline.
Joel Rose was found guilty on June 27 after a two-day jury trial in Kootenai County. The conviction stems from an incident that occurred on September 10, 2024, when Rose illegally shot a trophy-class bull elk with a rifle on private property in the Wolf Lodge area near his home. Read More…
Health Officials Issue Advisory for Hayden Lake Following Harmful Algal Bloom Detection

A public health advisory has been issued for the upper end of Hayden Lake after recent water sampling revealed the presence of a harmful algal bloom (HAB). The advisory, covering the area around Sportsman’s Park and the bay to the north on the lake’s northern arm, was announced by Panhandle Health District in coordination with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare and the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality.
